Children Do NOT Belong to Prison

The primary objective of the project "Children Do NOT Belong to Prison" (Deti nepatria do väzenia) is the protection of migrant children from detention.

Separated children - refugees and migrants, are especially vulnerable, even if they do migrate with their parents. In Slovakia, children who come with their parents follow the destiny of their parents and are placed in detention centres, if their parents are detained as illegal migrants. The aim of the project is therefore to promote complex solutions, which would eliminate the detention of children and their families, including the promotion of the alternatives to detention. 

Activities of the project include:

1. Advocacy campaign to stop or at least minimize the detention of children with their families

2. Legal interventions in cases involving children

3. Creating feasible alternative solution replacing the detention of children and their families (pilot case(s))

Project duration: January to December 2016. Project is funded by the Children of Slovakia Foundation.
